PSMA PET CT Scan

Basic Introduction

PSMA PET CT (Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen Positron Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography) is a highly advanced nuclear imaging test specifically designed to detect prostate cancer. It combines PET (functional imaging) with CT (structural imaging) to provide highly accurate detection and localization of prostate cancer cells.

Use of PSMA PET CT Scan

  • Prostate Cancer Diagnosis – Detects even small cancerous lesions in the prostate.
  • Cancer Staging – Identifies the extent of disease spread (metastasis to lymph nodes, bones, or other organs).
  • Recurrence Detection – Detects prostate cancer recurrence at very low PSA levels.
  • Treatment Planning – Helps in planning surgery, radiotherapy, or targeted therapy.
  • Response Assessment – Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing treatment.
